This committee is an advisory committee to Council on all matters affecting the Library, including acquisitions, management of the collection, loans and policies.  Day to day operations are delegated by the Council to the committee or the Library Manager.  The committee is also responsible for the loans from the Society's heritage collection.  Being a committee member provided camaraderie and the satisfaction through contributing to the effective running of a very unique and important collection for our members.

The role is to manage the Society's extensive and valuable collections to the benefit of the members and the public.

The collection is a fascinating assembly of over 25,000 volumes including some very rare items.  It is the largest non-government geographical collection in Australia comprising :
    - rare historical books providing excellent research material,
    - an extensive range of reference books, periodical, gazetteers and nomenclature,
    - over 800 maps, photographs relics, paintings and drawings, and
    - over 200 manuscripts including significant historical artefacts

New members are always wanted.  The library is a large and valuable collection.  An enthusiastic team of people with general interests in collections, library specialists and technicians is essential for its effective running and we welcome the participation and contribution of all members.  People interested in Australiana will appreciate this library.
