Lectures

There is a monthly lecture program where eminent speakers present information on a range of topics.  All lectures are held in the Goodman Lecture at the Botanical Gardens on Hackney Road, unless otherwise specified.  For details of the lecture program click here.

Meetings are generally held on Thursdays, they start at 6.00 pm and are usually followed by supper at the lecture theatre or a light meal at a café/restaurant on Norwood Parade.

Tours

The society endeavours to run tours throughout the year to various locations in South Australia to explore the geography, history, environment and industry of the areas.  These tours range from day trips to long-stay of up to a week.  Details can be found here.

 Flinders Ranges Walking Trail Maintenance

During the winter months there are 3 separate trips to the Flinders Ranges to maintain and upgrade existing walking trails.  These trails are located between Mt Brown (near Quorn) and the Terrapinna Tors (near Moolawatana).  The groups stay self catering National Parks accommodation at the Dutchman’s Stern, Orrapinna, Grindell Hut and Nudlamutana Hut, depending on the location of the trails being worked on.  The amount of work done is left entirely up to the individual’s interest and capacity.

Trail notes are available to walkers that describe the landscape they are seeing, the geology, Aboriginal stories, flora and fauna and settlement history.  The activity is done in conjunction with the Walking Trail Support Group  (WTSG) whose website is worth viewing get an oversight of the type of work done and safety issues.

Dates may change and will be notified in GeoNews, this website and the WTSG website.
